DunDraCon demos need people!

I'm only a few weeks out from convention, and I have only two (possibly three) people confirmed to participate in demos and help sit the table. I sent a missive out to SCA-West list but no bites (a few nibbles, though...)

I really need about a dozen people for each day (though more and returns for both days would be best.) to make these demos work. I need at least six people willing to fight and the rest willing to help marshal and answer questions.

For the demos: there is one on Saturday at 1 pm and one on Sunday at 10 am. I need both fighters (heavy and rapier, if available) and support people. For the demos themselves, we start up with warm ups, let the fighters go at it one on one, then a small melee. After that, we try gaming-related scenarios (mostly to show the gamers what REALLY happens when things go wrong) and ending the two hours with a round of whack-a-knight.

I need people to bring not only their fighting armor and weapons, but any steel weapons they are willing to lend for a weekend (bows are good, too.) The steel weapons are kept in the demo 'home room' for the duration of their stay, up on a peg wall behind a table. No convention participant is allowed to come around the table and handle the weapons. Convention participants may ask to handle the weapons, but they must have permission from whomever is on duty at the table, and they cannot take the weapons out of the room. This is for their safety as well as ours.

I ask that anyone willing to work either day (or both!) of the convention be willing to be there for the demo itself, and give me two hours on the table. The rest of the time is their own, they may wander throughout the convention (the badge will let them into all the participant rooms as well as sign up for games) though I would prefer it if they would walk around in garb. Just think! Another place to wear 12th night garb! Restrictions are that we cannot have any live steel or masks (though the latter is unlikely.) Middle eastern makeup is fine.

For registration purposes, I would need the mundane and SCA names of anyone who is willing to attend. We like to have the snail mail addy and an emergency contact number, but the snail mail is only so they can get a flier about the convention next year. If someone doesn't send it in, we just make up a fictional address so it won't print.

Please pass this along to your local groups. The site is San Ramon Marriott, the weekend is (unfortunately) the same weekend as Estrella. However, as I understand it, there are several people who are unable to make Estrella due to finances. This would be a great opportunity to test armor and weapons against other fighters in the light before March Crown.

Thanks!

EDIT: The dates for the convention are Feb 13 (Friday) through Feb 16 (Monday). The dates for the demos are Feb 14 (Yes, that's valentines day) and Feb 15.

If transport is an issue, Dublin BART is only a few miles from the site. I will strong arm shadowwalkyr to pick people up, if it means the difference between people on site or no.
lonely

Goodbye, 2008.

Of all the money that ere I had, I spent it in good company.
And of all the harm that ere I've done, alas was done to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit, to memory now I cannot recall.
So fill me to the parting glass. Goodnight and joy be with you all.

Of all the comrades that ere I had, they're sorry for my going away,
And of all the sweethearts that ere I had , they wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls unto my lot that I should rise while you should not,
I will gently rise and I'll softly call, "Goodnight and joy be with you all!"

A few good things

Since life has been tragically comical (as opposed to comically tragic) and I don't feel like venting to the two or three people who actually bother to read, let me go ahead and re-cap a few good things.

The baby, despite all my failings, is healthy, starting to chatter, and is probably going to start crawling anydaynowbewareworld.

After much sweating and muttering, I have managed to tetris the furniture to create space that is useful for multiple purposes, and allows me access to my lovely books once more; not to mention giving me a place to plug in the baby's nightlight which appears to help him fall asleep.

Purged many t-shirts into the 'archive' thus allowing the dresser drawers to actually close. Also decided to purge some other items which do not fit me/my tastes and made even more room.

Successfully packed more fragile items before D has a chance to break them, also secured other breakable items to more secure spots.

Got to see the lovely stella_nordica on her birthday (which I had forgotten - d'oh!) and chatted about taking D out to someplace weird and unusual.

I have tickets to see Great Big Sea this Thursday. B row, center. Beat that!

Stolen from MSN - Romantic Ideas for Everyday

But hey! I figger there are enough people here who are good to their sweeties, they deserve to get the ideas...

1. Stuff a little love note in your sweetie's pocket, sock, or shoe. For maximum impact, try email.

2. Secretly load a photo of the two of you as the desktop wallpaper on your honey's computer.

3. Burn a CD with tunes from your dating days and include your first dance (or favorite) song.

4. Buy a heart-shaped cookie-cutter and use it to make toast the next morning.

5. Look up the date of the next full moon and celebrate with a champagne toast.

6. Learn to ice skate or in-line skate together. This works best when both of you are beginners — the more clinging to each other, the better.

7. Hate basketball and your main squeeze is addicted to it? Get tickets to a game. Despise musicals? Surprise your sweetie with tickets to a show. Go against the grain, and endure with grace and cheer.

8. Spend the day at a museum, holding hands.

9. Forget breakfast in bed. Have dinner in bed (and don't worry about the crumbs).

10. Go to bed early. No books, no magazines, no remote control.

11. Tell a secret — it'll bring you closer.

12. Create your own cocktail together. Then make up a name for it by combining your two names.

13. Write "I Love You" on the steamy mirror while your beloved is in the shower.

14. Go to a bookstore or music store together, then split up. Your mission: Buy something you know your sweetie will love. Then, wrap and exchange.

15. Have a picnic. It doesn't have to be outdoors, it can be on your living room floor.

16. Absence is an aphrodisiac. Spend a weekend without each other (substitute your best pal, your sister, your old college roommate) and plan to meet back at your place after 48 hours apart.

17. Teach each other about something the other knows nothing about. He can teach her all the rules of chess, or how to make a perfect omelet. She can teach him ten phrases in French and how to use the digital camera.

18. Get away from it all close to home — spend a night in a very luxurious hotel or cozy bed-and-breakfast in your own city.

19. Get dressed together — choose each other's attire (for work, for dinner out, whatever). Then, later, get undressed together.

20. Find your sweetie's car in the parking lot and tuck a love note under the windshield wiper.

Stolen from everybody.

Rules:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me" or something of an equally pithy nature.
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature. Be warned!
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions, or there will be trouble.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

And, since everyone else has already posted (or at least enough of them that I don't want to hunt you all down) if anyone wants to ask questions, go ahead....

I expect to hear crickets. :)
